Setting up your tip jar

The tip jar lets fans send you money directly — at a show, after a stream, or just because they love what you do. It's one of the simplest, most powerful things on Sonic Bloom, and it's 0% commission: every dollar a fan tips goes to you, minus only Stripe's card-processing fee. We never take a cut, because the money never passes through us.

Turning it on

1. Connect Stripe if you haven't yet — tips pay out straight to your account. See Connecting Stripe to get paid.
2. Go to Get paid in your dashboard — that's the same screen, and it's where Stripe gets connected for merch, music and the Fan Club too.
3. Set your suggested amounts (the default is $5, $10, $20, and $50). These are just one-tap buttons — fans can always type their own amount.

That's it. Your tip jar appears on your /connect link-in-bio page, your store, and your home page — ready to take tips.

How a fan tips

When a fan taps a tip amount (or types their own) and hits send, we take them to a secure Stripe checkout page to pay by card. After they pay, they land back on a friendly thank-you page on your site — so it works even if they refresh, and there's no awkward "did that go through?" moment.

Fans now also get an email receipt for their tip, with a warm thank-you and a note that 100% of it went to you. It's a small touch that makes supporters feel good about chipping in — and reminds them who they're supporting.

Suggested amounts

The suggested buttons make it easy for a fan to tip without thinking. A few notes:

• Pick amounts that fit your audience. House-show crowd? Maybe $5/$10/$20. Bigger following? Nudge them up.
• Fans can always enter a custom amount, so you're never capping generosity.
• You can change the suggestions anytime.

The QR code — your merch-table secret weapon

From the Tip Jar (and your /connect hub), you can download a QR code poster. Print it and prop it on the merch table or tape it to your guitar case. Fans scan it with their phone camera and land right on your page, where they can tip in seconds — no cash, no Venmo handle to spell out, no "do you take cards?"

This is where the tip jar earns its keep. A clear "Scan to tip" sign at a live show consistently outperforms hoping people have cash.

One thing before you print: make sure your site is Live, not Coming Soon. A printed code pointing at a holding page can't take a tip, and you won't find out until you're standing at the merch table. The Tip Jar screen warns you if you're not live yet.

Where the money goes

Straight to your Stripe account, on your normal payout schedule — see Understanding payouts. Because the charge happens directly on your connected Stripe account, the money never passes through us. You'll see recent tips in your dashboard so you know they're landing, and you'll get an email the moment a tip comes in.

Your tip dashboard also shows your all-time tip total and this-month total at a glance — handy for seeing how a busy show weekend moved the needle.
