Smart links

Smart links

Your fans aren't all on the same service. Post a Spotify link and the Apple Music people shrug; post both and the caption's a mess.

A smart link is one link that gives the listener a tidy page of choices — Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Bandcamp, Tidal, Amazon Music, Deezer, SoundCloud — and lets them tap the one they already have.

Making one

Go to Smart links in your dashboard and add a new one. Give it a name (the release, usually), then paste in the URL for each service you're on. You only have to fill in the ones that apply — blank ones don't show up.

You get back a short link on your own domain. That's the one you put in your Instagram bio, your posts, your newsletter, and on your /connect page.

You can also just ask Roadie: "make a smart link for the new single" and paste the URLs in as it asks for them.

Why it's on your own domain

The link lives on your site, not a third party's. That means no other company's branding on your release page, no ads, nobody else collecting the click data — and if you ever leave, nothing breaks that you can't fix yourself.

Seeing what's working

Each smart link shows a click count, so you can tell which post actually moved people. It's a blunt number on purpose — enough to tell you whether Tuesday's post did better than Friday's, without pretending to be analytics.

A tip

Make the smart link before the release announcement, not after. The link can exist with only the services you've got so far, and you can add the rest as they go live — the link itself never changes, so the posts you've already made keep working.
