Selling digital music

You sell music through Releases in your dashboard. A release is a single or an album: you upload the tracks, add the artwork, set a price, and publish. Fans can stream a preview, buy, and download.

Three ways to price a release

When you set up a release, you choose how it's priced:

• Free — fans enter their email and get the download. Great for growing your mailing list with a free single or a tour EP.
• Fixed price — you set the amount; fans pay it to download.
• Pay-what-you-want — fans choose what to pay, at or above a minimum you set (the default minimum is $1). A lot of fans pay more than you'd ask.

You can set this per release, so your back catalog can be free while your new record is paid — whatever mix you want.

Singles and albums

A release can be a single track or a full album. For an album, upload all the tracks in order and they're bundled together — fans buy the release and get everything in it. Each release has its own artwork, and you can override the cover for an individual track if you want.

Uploading your audio

Upload your tracks and we handle the rest:

• MP3 is always available to your fans.
• Lossless — if you upload a .wav or .flac master, we offer fans the lossless download too. We process those masters in the background after you upload; a release publishes once its tracks are ready. If a track's still processing, you'll see its status, and you can retry if anything fails.

How fans get their download

After buying (or claiming a free release), the fan gets a secure download link — both on the confirmation screen and in a confirmation email sent right away. The link lets them:

• Stream the release in the browser player.
• Download the files (MP3, plus lossless if you provided it).

The link is tied to their purchase, so they can come back to it later. No account required for the fan.

Previews: before buying, visitors can hear a short preview of each track, so they know what they're getting without giving away the full file.

Seeing your sales

Each release has a sales view in your dashboard showing how many copies sold, total revenue, and the list of buyers. You can export the buyer list as a CSV, and you can issue a refund on a purchase right from there if you need to.

Getting paid

Music sales run through your connected Stripe account — money goes straight to you, 0% commission from us (just Stripe's processing fee). You'll need Stripe connected to sell paid releases; see Connecting Stripe to get paid. Free releases work without Stripe, since no money changes hands.
